Chen Gelin

China

Chinese artist Chen Gelin uses his contemporary practice to explore the use of linear fiber materials in artistic expression. Deeply influenced by the culture and traditional crafts of Chinese ethnic minorities, in particular the weaving techniques of the Hakka people and the brocade patterns of the Zhuang ethnic group, he combines industrial materials such as steel nails and nylon in his intricate works. He integrates a complex amalgamation of layers and textures with techniques found in screen printing, exploring themes of space, light, speed as well as formal order.
