Melbourne Art Fair

Support

In every initiative undertaken, Melbourne Art Foundation is committed to the ongoing development and diversification of Australian contemporary art through meaningful support of living artists. The donor program is an integral element of this undertaking; an essential stream of funding that gets channelled into artwork commissions, learning programs, exhibitions, grants, and awards. It ensures our ability to create structures that bring vitality, autonomy and resilience to our arts communities and practitioners.

You can support these goals through making an independent donation or by joining our Patrons Program. All contributions, no matter their value, are meaningful and help Melbourne Art Foundation in realising objectives of cultural significance.

In 2021/2022, your gift will contribute to:

The Melbourne Art Foundation Commission program provides a living artist with a rare opportunity to realise a work of scale and significance for unveiling at Melbourne Art Fair, which is later gifted to a prominent Australian collecting institution.

In 2022, in partnership with ACMI, the Melbourne Art Foundation Commission will be awarded to an artist of First Nations heritage working in the moving-image.

Previous partners in the program include HOTA Gallery, Bendigo Art Gallery, NGV, QAGOMA, the University of Queensland Art Museum, MCA, Art Gallery of South Australia, National Gallery of Australia; and artists Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, Ronnie van Hout, Michael Parekowhai, David Griggs, Peter Hennessey, Jon Campbell, Ian Burns, and Mikala Dwyer.

Melbourne Art Foundation has developed an initiative to provide meaningful financial support to arts centres working with First Nations practitioners, specifically those living on Country whose reliance on cultural tourism has been impacted by the far-reaching effects of COVID-19.

With the support of our community, we aim to provide a fully funded exhibition package for arts centres within Melbourne Art Fair, to provide communities with the commercial benefit of artwork sales, personal and professional development opportunities for their artists, and promote ethical and fair transactions in the Indigenous art market.

In an ongoing capacity, we believe that this program will have long-lasting, meaningful and measurable effects on these communities, ensuring that these artists are able to attend and exhibit their work in an art event of national significance,  and that their ability to explore their practices and support the social fabric of their communities through creative autonomy is upheld.

Certified with both a Deductible Gift Recipient Status and Charitable Tax Concessions Status, all donations over $2 to the Melbourne Art Foundation Fund are tax deductible. Where relevant, we acknowledge the generosity and support of our donors through our marketing communications and on our website.
