Wik & Kugu Arts Centre

Wik & Kugu Arts Centre is located in Aurukun, a small remote Aboriginal community on the north-west coast of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland. The Centre is renowned for its iconic milkwood sculptures produced by the men of Aurukun, and the women are well-known for ochre and acrylic paintings.

At the 2024 Fair, Wik & Kugu Arts Centre presented sculptural works by Winner of the 2023 Telstra NATSIAA Art Award, Keith Wikmunea. As an artist, he is passionate about passing on his creative and cultural knowledge to future generations.

Ingvar Kenne’s ongoing photographic series titled ‘a portrait of [country]’, continues his exploration of abandonment as he searches out magical, often inaccessible and harrowing parts of the Land that still echo with their pre-colonial life.

@ingvarkenne's large-scale photographs will be exhibited by @day01.gallery (Gadigal Country/Sydney) at Melbourne Art Fair 2025 alongside works by Marisa Purcell.

At Melbourne Art Fair 2025, @tolarno (Naarm/Melbourne) will present a significant solo exhibition of works by @hannahgartsidestudio

"𝘉𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦, 𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 is a series of small sculptures of anthropomorphised rabbits made from worn vintage ladies’ gloves in leather, suede and cotton. The gloves have been manipulated to depict bunnies cuddling, hanging out, pleasuring themselves and each other. After years of functioning as protection against impropriety and cold weather, these gloves now bring to life little experiences and relationships."

Hannah has also recently been announced at the recipient of the prestigious Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship for 2025. Melbourne Art Fair extends its congratulations to Hannah for this tremendous achievement.

Announcement 📣

Under the Melbourne Art Foundation 2025 commission program, two ambitious new works from leading international artists, represented by exhibiting galleries, will be showcased at Melbourne Art Fair. In partnership with @qagoma celebrated Singaporean multi-disciplinary artist Dawn Ng, represented by @sullivanstrumpf (Gadigal Country/Sydney, Naarm/Melbourne), will exhibit a new moving image work exploring the tenor and trajectory of time via a hypnotic cascade of falling colour. Ng’s presentation at the 2025 Melbourne Art Fair is supported by @theritzcarltonmelbourne

Additionally, in partnership with the @govettbrewster, Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland-based artist Yona Lee, represented by @fineartssydney (Gadigal Country/Sydney), will develop a large scale installation, calling into question what it means to make sculpture comprised of found objects in the networked digital age. Lee’s commission at the 2025 Melbourne Art Fair is supported by@artwork_transport and is the first time a Melbourne Art Foundation Commission will be in partnership with an international institution.

𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴, Est

𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴, Esther Stewart's third solo exhibition with @stationgalleryaustralia (Naarm/Melbourne) closes next week, 5 October.

Integral to Stewart’s practice is an experimentation with modular designs. 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴 showcases Stewart’s consideration on modularity as a means to enable the interchange of parts without disrupting entire systems. She sees each panel as a collage in itself, ultimately contributing to a cohesive larger structure.

Currently exhibiting at @chalkhorsegallery (Gadigal Country/Sydney) until 19 October, 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘺 presents a new series of works by Claudia Greathead.

Strung together, the works form an ecosystem of their own, where each ‘species’ both exists within a web of interrelationships, and negotiates a particular agency of its own. Each painting brings into focus the robustness and textures of the insects - their intricate qualities are endowed with a dispersive mode of attention, and a speculativeness which always seem to persist within Greathead’s imagery.

@dominikmerschgallery (Gadigal Country/Sydney) presents 𝘖𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩, opening at the gallery this Saturday 21 September. The exhibition features a series of works by John Beard, continuing his exploration into the concepts of sight and vision, and perception and illusion. Through his unique rendition of objects and subjects, Beard questions the very notions of authenticity in painting and the representation of image.
