Louise Robertson
Australia
Louise Robertson is a Warlpiri artist based in Yarrenyty Arltere Town Camp (Larapinta Valley Town Camp) in Mparntwe (Alice Springs). She practices with Yarrenyty Arltere Artists, who are celebrated for their iconic soft sculptures, colourfully sewn from recycled woollen blankets, dyed with local plants, and hand-painted fabrics. These works are jubilant expressions of the Central Desert, redefining perceptions of contemporary life on Country.
Within this collective, Robertson has developed a distinctive individual sculptural practice, one that is both experimental and delicate. Her sculptures capture the beauty of her Country, portraying birds caught mid-dance, as well as life in the Town Camp, animating the animals and people who live there.
Robertson has garnered wide acclaim and in 2022 she was a finalist in the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards. Her work is included in prominent private and public collections including the National Gallery of Australia.
