Join APY Artist and Director George Cooley as he discusses his practice and involvement in the APY Art Centre Collective. A respected senior man and community leader from Coober Pedy, Cooley is a painter and opal miner, and Chair of the Umoona Community Arts Centre that opened in 2024. He paints the landscape surrounding his Country, particularly the Breakaways, an important site 25km north of Coober Pedy, known for its spectacular hills, mesas and plains. Cooley has been nominated in the 2023 and 2024 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, the 2024 Wynne Prize and featured in the 2024 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
