The late, great art critic Peter Schjeldahl used to refer to The Cloud of Unknowing, a fourteenth-century mystic tract, as one of his models for encountering art. According to Schjeldahl, the text proposed a method for willfully releasing all preconceptions and entering into a state of contemplation that might—hopefully—end in insight. Can criticism help us exit from the cloud? Join art critics and historians Cameron Hurst, Victoria Perin and Rex Butler for a discussion about criticism at the fair. Butler, Hurst, and Perin will chat about works on display at the Exhibition Centre.
