Abdul Abdullah

Australia

D.O.B: 06/02/1986

Abdul Abdullah’s practice hinges on how as a young Muslim he has felt seen as something monstrous in the popular imagination, igniting conversations around identity, self-reflection, and othering. While the fraught dynamic of Muslim experiences has provided the initial framework, Abdullah has consciously expanded his practice to include a broader sense of marginalisation, exploring the disjuncture between perceptions of identity and the realities of lived experience. Abdullah has exhibited extensively, with recent curated exhibitions including: The National 4 Australian Art Now, Art Gallery of NSW (2023), Un/learning Australia, Seoul Museum of Art, South Korea (2022); Monster Theatres, Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Art Gallery of SA (2020); and Stories We Tell To Scare Ourselves With, Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (2019). His work is in numerous institutional collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, QAGOMA, and MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, Thailand.
