Jan Albers
Germany
Jan Albers lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany and attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1992-98. He received the Pollock Krasner Foundation Award, New York, USA in 2006 and the Dahlmann Prize from Leopold-Hoesch Museum & Papiermuseum Düren in 2013. Albers is included in collections such as the Deutsche Bank Collection, Art Palace Foundation Düsseldorf, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, and more recently the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen - K20 K21 Düsseldorf, Hamburger Kunsthalle, and Von Der Heydt-Museum, Wuppertal have acquired works for their collections.
Albers' sculptures exist mostly as (bas)-reliefs, objects that extend his vocabulary beyond painting to create monumental, almost abstract sculptures. A folded “origami-cubism” we understand just how sweetly and effortlessly he is able to synthesize the fundamental coordinates of modernism more broadly, with a punchy rock ’n roll enthusiasm that delivers a glorious visual electricity that feels unique.
