In 2026, correspondences (Naarm/Melbourne) arrives at Melbourne Art Fair, a new home away from home from 19 – 22 February, with This Way, That Way, a group presentation examining thinking, in its full richness, reason and intuition, memory and imagination.
Inspired by Edwin A. Abbott’s eccentric sci-fi novella Flatland (1884), the project features new works of photography, sculpture and video by Ali McCann, drawing and installation by Ravi Avasti, sound by Fia Fiell and movement practice by Sekar Sari together with historical works of sculpture by Yoko Ozawa and Ruby Brown.
This Way, That Way will be presented across two sites, at MAF and at correspondences, until 1 March, where historical works will be shown, foregrounding the starting points, correspondences, and inspirations for the new works featured at the Fair.

RAKING LEAVES FROM GRAVEL BY BENA JACKSON
Borrowing details from a medieval château and the inner city gutter alike, Raking leaves from gravel takes the form of an imagined streetscape.
Through a practice led by walking, observing, and documenting, Bena Jackson collects evidence of agency, ingenuity, and cumulative changes within our urban spaces to inform her sculptures.
Her processes develop textures and patinas that recall repetitions of pedestrian life, evidence of adaptation, and acts of care and maintenance.
As Aotearoa New Zealand’s young urban centres are faced with the evidence of critical underinvestment in infrastructure, this project considers what it means, and what it takes, for materials and forms to last over time.
