EARTHING Presented By ACE

EARTHING introduces three contemporary South Australian artists presented by Adelaide Contemporary Experimental (ACE) (Kaurna Country/Adelaide) whose works create different contact points for the energies that connect, control and move through us, unseen but knowable.

OAKEY’s installation, PORTAL, stems from the artist’s exploration of states of extended deep listening in nature, offering a reflection on the transformative experience of moving between inner and outer worlds. OAKEY will be sharing a durational performance and conversations with visitors daily in the installation.

Carly Tarkari Dodd, a weaver of Ngarrindjeri, Narungga and Kaurna heritage, uses traditional weaving techniques with modern materials to quote the visual language of precious gemstones and their role in regalia and displays of opulence.

Exploring the combination of offensive and defensive strategies embodied in the spiny fruits of the environmental weed, the three-cornered jack, and reflecting on themes of occupation and territorial incursions, Mark Valenzuela’s hand-built ceramics create an unsettled interplay of sound and clay.

Attending To Presented By West Space

West Space (Naarm/Melbourne) presents Attending To a sound and installation work by Aarti Jadu and Claire de Carteret, who have been experimenting with sound and ceramics, and the ways these materials work together.

From a background of group devotional singing and folk tradition, Aarti Jadu seeks to integrate participatory work into contemporary composition. Claire de Carteret is a ceramicist exploring clay chemistry, technologies, and resonating sculptural form. Attending To unfolds the artists’ interest in how listening rather than hearing, cultivates intimacy, subjective interpretation and reflection.
