Rick Hayward is an artist, maker, and traditional signwriter based in Meanjin/Brisbane, creating finely crafted works that combine traditional techniques with contemporary practice. Working primarily with wood, glass, and gold leaf, his multidisciplinary practice spans art, craft, and design, informed by a deep commitment to materiality and hand-making. Originally trained as a signwriter, Hayward has refined his skills through mentorships with leading craftspeople and artists. A graduate of Sturt School for Wood’s acclaimed program, he has received significant recognition, including the Wootha Prize, and was selected for the inaugural Artisan and JamFactory residency partnership, further establishing his presence within Australia’s contemporary craft landscape.
